I want to discuss some misconceptions in Home Based Business.

The first is the impression that everything that the successful Leaders do, goes their way with ease because we are… (FILL IN THE REASON OF YOUR CHOICE).

I can assure you, that nothing can be farther from the Truth. No Leader closes every person they invite to look at a company. All of them have the disappointment of having people we’ve enrolled violate their agreement to us and to the company and quit.

The second misconception is that the successful Leaders never get upset about events that are counter productive, detrimental or just plain aggravating; that somehow they have mastered the art of being perfect in controlling their emotions and that they no longer react as normal Human Beings to those situations. Again, nothing could be farther from the Truth.

The third and final misconception that I want to address in this message is that once a successful Leader has reached their success, they are no longer concerned or interested in coaching and guiding and helping their Groups to rise to their level of success.

The fallacy of that belief is self-evident. The only reason any of the Leaders are perceived as Leaders, is because of the Value of their contributions and service to the individuals and the group as a whole is recognized and appreciated by the majority.

In any company, the only way any Leader can have confidence in the stability of our Long term, PASSIVE RESIDUAL INCOME is in the duplication of skill and competence, and the raising up and development of new Leaders in our teams behind us in the process.

Every Leader is working to the best of his or her ability to achieve this. Ideally, every one of you is too. The ultimate success of any Leader is to make him or herself inconsequential in the ultimate realization of the Vision and Mission at hand.

The difference between the Leaders and the rest is HOW WE CHOOSE TO RESPOND to the setbacks and disappointments we experience. My responses have changed considerably over the 34 year history of my involvement in Home–Based Business endeavors. My success and stature as a Leader has paralleled those changes.

In the beginning, I was reactive, often explosive and would tend to nurse the negative feelings for days, weeks or even months after an occurrence. Not healthy for me, my team or my Leadership.

Today, when a counterproductive event occurs, I get upset appropriately, acknowledge the upset, accept the upset, appreciate it as a growth experience, discharge the negative energy or emotion in it, and get over it in a matter of minutes. I don’t dwell on it, I don’t focus on it. I CHOOSE instead to refocus on my End Goal and make any corrective action steps necessary to continue to move towards it.

The PURPOSE for me in responding this way is to maintain a State of HAPPINESS at all times. Existing in Happiness is a key condition of being in and remaining in productive action towards your Goal.

HAPPINESS is a Gift we have all been endowed with by our Creator. HAPPINESS is always present in our Hearts, so it is possible to be happy under all conditions and circumstances. It may not always be easy for us to claim our gift, but as we practice the CHOICE to be HAPPY, as we persistently turn within, expectant and willing, we shall not fail to be lifted up and blessed with Happiness.

Most of us believe that we must pursue happiness, and thus we seek to “Find” happiness in our relationships, in particular environments, in business and other social activities; but unless and until we are willing to accept and allow God’s gift of HAPPINESS implanted in our own heart, we shall never find happiness. There is a lyric in a very popular current song that goes “We’re all addicted to a certain kind of sadness”, and there may be a great deal of truth in that statement.

Look around. We all know people who seem to have everything in an outer way to make their life a joyous, happy experience, yet are discontented and weary of Spirit. They have not yet accepted God’s gift of HAPPINESS. Conversely, we may know people handicapped by conditions to the point where their lives are very restricted, yet they are radiantly happy and inspiring companions and friends. They have accepted their gift of HAPPINESS.

Why is this important to us? Happiness increases the Potential for positive action. Have you ever seen an energetic depressed person? I don’t think so. The great news is, that just the same as it is for every State of Being, Happiness is a CHOICE, and we get to make that choice, every day in every situation. I have an Affirmation that I say and would like to share it with you.

I hope that you will all say it with feeling, imagine how wonderful it would feel to exist in a state of constant Happiness, a MINDSET of JOY, and then actually achieve that wonderful state through practice over time.

It seems we are in the midst of “Gratitude Season” right now. Have you noticed? It is a heartwarming shift away from focusing on what is not working lacking or wrong in our lives, and one that has the power to truly invite JOY back into our daily lives.

I’d like to take a minute and offer a perspective on the difference between Gratitude and JOY, and the relationship that exists between them. While it is true that Joy is often a component that makes us feel grateful, we should not make Joy a precondition for a state of Gratitude. It seems to me that it is rather more appropriate that it is a state of Gratitude that makes us feel Joyful. I believe making this simple yet profound distinction is at the heart of understanding true JOY. Understanding that Gratitude opens the doors to Joy calls us into action… Now. If we wait around for joy to show up first, we might be waiting for a very long time.

The action of choosing to practice Gratitude focuses our attention on what is already working in our lives right now. Past regrets and future aspirations are not a part of this equation. By focusing on what we are grateful for now no matter how big or small, we shift our consciousness and thought away from what we lack and invite in a feeling of contentment. I find the most challenging part of practicing gratitude is the very practice itself. Like most things worth doing, thinking nice thoughts about it just isn’t enough…we have to work at it. We actually have to dedicate time and energy to really receive the benefits of the practice.

Start by offering up a bit of gratitude every time you have the opportunity to expand your Home Based business. We are truly so lucky to be able to express ourselves creatively in this manner while so many people do not yet have this luxury. Staying in a place of gratitude while creating, is a key to cutting down any feelings of frustration that might hamper your creative pursuits.

I truly appreciate each and every one of you and standby to help continue to create the abundance and results that you seek through our common business.
